I'd make the attraction you most want to visit the anchor of the day, then arrange lunch and nearby sights around the confirmed booking. That is especially useful for a museum you would be disappointed to miss. A payment attempt, an inquiry and a valid admission reservation are different things.
Start with the attraction's official visitor page. Follow its booking link. Check the operator name, the date and the admission product before entering passport details or paying.
Make a short booking sheet for each major sight
Do not try to remember several sets of rules from a row of browser tabs. Give each important attraction its own note:
| Item | What you need to establish |
|---|---|
| Visitor | Name and document type used for admission |
| Booking channel | Official website, app, mini program or assisted route |
| Date and slot | The visit date and any assigned entry period |
| Product | Main admission and any separately selected area or activity |
| Confirmation | Successful reservation and how to retrieve it |
| Arrival | Correct gate, document and admission instructions |
| Changes | The original seller's cancellation and amendment route |
A national park, museum and cable-car trip may organize their products differently. Read the names in the current booking instead of assuming a bundle contains everything shown in a promotional photo.
Choose the passport route deliberately
Look for the document-type selector before filling in the form. Select the document you will actually carry and follow the current name fields. Do not leave a mainland identity-card setting selected and try to fit a passport number into it.
Check the record for every visitor before payment. Copy names and document numbers from the relevant passport. For a family, check each traveler's ticket category and document requirements with the attraction; a rule from the railway or another museum is not a substitute.
The museum says it does not sell same-day tickets and requests passport numbers from foreign visitors booking online. For the Palace Museum, I would settle the booking before making that the center of your Beijing day. Follow the Tickets link on its international visitor page to reach the museum's international reservation service.
Treat the phone field as a separate problem
An overseas number and a data-only travel connection solve different tasks. Before buying a ticket, check where a confirmation or verification code will be sent and whether you will be able to receive it. Keep access to that channel through the visit.
If a form rejects your number, look for the country-code control and check the required format. If it still does not work, use the attraction's published international or assisted channel. Do not invent a mainland number or borrow a number without understanding where admission messages and refund communications will go.
Beijing's June 2025 hotline reply describes passport booking through the Palace Museum's international site and a separate assisted-window arrangement at the Summer Palace. Use the venue's current instructions to confirm today's route instead of treating one park's process as a national rule.
When asking for help, name the exact screen and error. “I cannot book” is hard to diagnose; “I selected passport, entered an overseas number with country code, and the payment page rejects the phone field” gives the operator something useful to investigate.
Use the official booking sequence
Open the visitor guidance, choose the date, add the visitors and select the intended product. Read the entry conditions and total before paying. If an extra gallery, shuttle, cable car or show appears, decide whether you want it.
Keep the booking page open until you have a clear result. Then return to the order list or confirmation channel and check the actual reservation. You want the correct attraction, date, visitors and product, with a successful status you know how to retrieve.
If the payment is uncertain, record the order reference and check with the original seller. Do not keep buying replacements while the first order is unresolved. Save any bank transaction separately from the admission confirmation so you can explain which part succeeded and which did not.
When you use a third-party seller
An intermediary can be useful when you need a supported language, an assisted process or a specific organized visit. Compare the exact admission or service being sold with what you wanted. Read whether it is an instant confirmed ticket, a request awaiting fulfilment, or a guided experience whose admission is arranged later.
Before committing, find the meeting point, language, included products, visitor-document procedure and cancellation terms. Ask how you will receive the final admission credential. A seller's order number is useful for customer service, but you still need to understand what the attraction will accept at the entrance.
I'd avoid handing over a full passport image through an informal chat merely to obtain a quote. Ask why the information is needed, how the recognised seller collects it and what the confirmed service includes. Keep the written booking conditions with the order.
Prepare for the actual entrance
Save the attraction's Chinese name, visitor entrance and the document tied to the reservation. Put the confirmation somewhere reachable without searching your whole inbox. If more than one person is traveling, make sure the group can identify each visitor's booking.
Read the instructions for arrival and the gate named on the reservation. An attraction can have several entrances, with different access for visitors, tours and other activities. Let the booking tell you where to enter.
For a phone-based credential, arrive with a charged device and a way to reopen the order. For an identity-linked reservation, have the original document ready. If something fails, go to the attended service point with both the booking and document instead of repeatedly scanning the same unrecognised code.
Keep a useful alternative for the day
If your chosen date is unavailable, decide whether to move the attraction or replace it. I would not buy a complicated detour just to preserve a day plan that has not been booked. Keep a neighborhood walk, another museum or a food outing as an alternative that genuinely interests you.
For help, this message keeps the question focused:
Hello, we would like to visit on [date]. We hold [country] passports and use overseas phone numbers. Which official channel should we use, what document should we select, and how will we receive and use the admission confirmation? The error appears at [step].
您好,我们计划[日期]参观,持[国家]护照,使用境外手机号码。请问应该使用哪个官方渠道、选择哪种证件,以及如何接收和使用入场凭证?目前在[步骤]出现错误。
Once the booking is settled, place the rest of the day around it. The aim is a reservation you understand and can use, with room to enjoy the visit when you get there.
